Izzy Estelle, a senior at Harmony School, just published her first book, entitled, "Positive Affirmations." The book, described by Izzy, is "100 pages of beautifully graphic-designed positive affirmations about self-love and growth."
Publishing the book is the first part of Izzy's senior project, which concludes this spring with a performance starring Izzy. She will perform songs relating to eight different affirmations from her book. Songs include hits like Mariah Carey's "Hero" and "Always Be My Baby" as well as Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On," which Izzy says relates to the affirmation, "I have trust in the universe that I will find my soulmate."
According to Izzy, the idea to write an affirmation book stems from Izzy's personal journey with depression and the outlet she found in therapeutic poetry.
"I was depressed and didn't feel like I had support," Izzy said. "I needed to create a spark of light in the darkness." For Izzy, that light was found through writing poetry. She says her challenges inspire her to create. "When negativity and trauma is thrown my way in life, it makes me want to channel that energy into my art."
Izzy chose this project to culminate her education at Harmony as a celebration of her graphic design and musical performance skills in a way that encourages and inspires others to feel positive about themselves.
"I made the book for myself, but also to spread positivity to others. The goal is for the reader to find joy and happiness in reading it. If they're sad, I hope they look at the book and feel the positive message."
As for Izzy's future, she plans to continue writing, designing and performing, and she's already working on her next book: an affirmations sequel.
